Don’t Be A Pickle Head

Who is a picklehead? Somebody that doesn’t follow pickleball etiquette:

Pickleball Etiquette

  1. If you arrive early, please assist with the set‐up of the nets, and if you leave near closing, please take down a net.
  2. When taking down a net please try to correctly roll up a net so the next person who is setting up isn’t having a hard time unrolling a tangled up mess.
  3. Always greet your partners and exchange names.
  4. No trash talk.
  5. Don’t gloat about a winning point.
  6. Don’t sneer or say something negative to your partner even if they miss an easy shot.
  7. When you are walking behind a game in play, stop and wait between serves before crossing behind their court.
  8. At the end of the game, go to the net and thank your opponents
  9. Never move someone else’s paddle.
  10. When an obviously inexperienced player is playing, please don’t always hit the ball to them just to win. Remember, everyone started as a beginner. Be kind.
  11. Do not take the game too seriously. It’s pickleball!
  12. Don’t cry, get mad, or swear if you lose. There is always the next game.
  13. Be nice to the staff that runs the tournaments.
  14. No whining!
  15. Always smile.
  16. Don’t argue over line calls. It’s your opponent’s call if it’s on their side.
  17. Be honest and call it if you were in the “kitchen.”
  18. Serve correctly, underhand and below the waist.
  19. Chase down balls for other players.
  20. When giving the ball to your opponents as in a side-out, don’t slam it at their head. Hit it to them so they can catch it.
  21. Try not to wear clothing that is the same color as the ball you will be playing with.
  22. Always wear correct footwear.
  23. Eye protection is a good option.
  24. Lobs and slams are going to happen. Don’t get mad.
  25. Try to play in your level. Advanced players don’t mind one or two games with players below their level, but not all the time.
  26. Everyone was (or is) a beginner at one time and playing with people that are better then you or that are just learning will help all players, at all skill levels and keep the sport of pickleball growing. Everyone appreciates the time given to “assist” all levels of players with rules, set up, specific plays etc.
  27. Always say the score before you serve.
  28. Keep your opinions to yourself if you are not a player in the game and just a spectator.
  29. Turn off your cell phone.

If you would like to add to this list, please comment. Thank you!
